MARTHA JEFFERSON HOSPITAL - CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA

PROCON has been engaged by Kahler Slater Architects of Milwaukee, Wisconsin to provide consulting  services for the design and construction of the natural stone veneer exterior wall system at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottsville, VA.  PROCON developed the contract specifications, and also provided quality assurance observation and testing during the progress of the recently completed exterior wall envelope construction (completed summer 2011).

The stone veneer masonry exterior wall of the new 500,000 SF hospital was constructed using the direct adhesion method with a new technology bondable waterproofing and crack isolation isolation membrane, and lightweight polymer-modified cement adhesives and masonry joint pointing mortar. 

Utilizing equipment designed and developed by PROCON, in situ shear bond testing was conducted on the new stone veneer masonry exterior assembly during construction to confirm in-situ performance with product manufacturer published specifications and architectural specifications.

PROCON conducted a re-evaluation and acoustic sounding testing of the completed stone veneer installation after the seismic event of August 23, 2011 centered  approximately 35 miles east of Charlottesville Va.
